What a fun-filled afternoon! Astronaut Chaio came to teach us about his adventures in space aboard the International Space Station (ISS). If you'd like to know more, click on the link below to see what the firsties have been studying and discussing in Schoology. Next, we headed to Mrs. Miller's classroom where Mr. D taught us about inner and outer planets. We learned that the outer planets are made of gas. Then, we made bubbles to observe the properties of gas.

I am sure the children have been coming home sharing exciting stories about their grade level projects. It has been such a pleasure watching the students and teachers work together to create something so unique and special. It will be an experience that is out of this world! The PTO has always been involved in Hawk Air and is in charge of ensuring we have volunteers to help prepare the gym ahead of time for the event and to man the event itself. We need help on the evening of Tuesday, March 1st and during the school day on Wednesday, March 2nd to create the setting of the colony on Pluto. We will also need help during the actual event which is Thursday, March 3rd and Friday, March 4th. The schedule is below: Tuesday, March 1st Build Help 5:00- 8:00 pm. Light Snacks provided. Wednesday, March 2nd Build Help 9:00 am- 2:00 pm. Please sign up for a block of time. If you haven't already done so, please be sure to get yours in right away so I can be sure to accommodate your requested conference date. *PJ Day (Thursday) Our class has earned 26 Soaring Slips for good behavior. The class voted and the majority chose to celebrate with a PJ day on Thursday. *Science Fair (January 28th and 29th) Our school will hold the annual Science Fair on Friday, January 29th. Be sure to check out all of the great work on Thursday the 28th at 6:00. *The 100th Day of School (February 5th) We will be celebrating the 100th Day of School on Friday, February 5th. More information to come. *Valentine's Day (February 11th) We will share Valentines with as a class on Thursday, February 11th. Please be sure your child makes a Valentine for each class member. We will be sending home a class list this week. If you'd like an additional copy, please see Class News. *Astronaut Leroy Chaio Visits (February 17) Mark your calendar...Astronaut Leroy Chaio and a panel of scientists will present on the future of space at Erie High School at 6:00 on February 17th. Click the image to the right for more information. *Inta' Juice (Tuesdays beginning February 2nd) For an additional charge, the cafeteria just announced they will be serving Inta' Juice on Tuesdays. On 1/21/16 at 6:30 Hygiene will host a joint PTO and Principal Cafe to educate families about common core state standards and assessments. Parents will be provided support and resources to help when working on homework. Children are welcome to attend to test some of the programs. Snacks will be provided for parents. This is a wonderful opportunity that I hope you will take advantage of!

Speaking of fun and learning, the annual Hygiene Science Fair will be here before we know it (January 28th & 29th)! I hope you found the purple registration forms in your child's Tuesday Folder. The registration form needs to be submitted by January 12th. If you should need another, you can click the image at the end of this post. It is always fun to see the excitement and learning that takes place when students participate in the science fair. I hope you will consider giving it a try this year! This Winter Break, be sure to read, read, read!!! Did you know our school could win $2500 if we win the SVVSD MyOn Reading Challenge? Our school-wide goal is for each child to read on MyOn for 130 minutes. Please see the Reading Log tab or click the link below if you need an extra log sheet. If your child reads at least 10 times and returns the log, I will also have a prize waiting after break.
