First graders have spent the past month learning about the properties and characteristics of solids and liquids. We completed FOSS kit lessons and a MyOn reading project. We will continue our learning with science experiments and design challenges.
Please take a look at our little designers...they will certainly change the world! During the last late start day, first graders were challenged to use what they learned about the properties of solids to design a way to keep an ice cube from melting. They empathized what it must have been like before refrigeration. Then they worked with a partner to ideate which materials would be the best insulators. Next they created prototypes. Finally they compared their ice cube to a control to test the effectiveness of their design.
